Clearly, I love the parks around New Orleans. Many photos from The New Orleans Collection are of things inside parks. Well, the parks are lovable - what can I say?!
Crescent Park was a brilliant way to turn unused riverfront property into something that we can all enjoy. As a local real estate broker in New Orleans, I know a lot about this area. The park borders the
Bywater and
Marigny neighborhoods along the Mississippi River. Our beautiful Rusty Rainbow bridge is how you get to the actual park. They do have an elevator, but climbing the stairs across feels something special. It’s a unique way to enter into an urban park.
Crescent Park is not at all like City Park or Audubon Park, which makes it unique. It's also why I added it to The New Orleans Collection of notecards and prints. There are no live oak trees surrounding you; more of an urban garden that you can walk or jog or bike along the path. The span is almost a mile and a half of pathway. At one end is a large space that you can sit or stand at the railing and enjoy the river. It’s right there next to you, and it’s huge. You can see the skyline, and you can see the other side of the river as well. The views are spectacular.
Classic French Quarter Building
Given my love of trees, I took this shot with a couple of trees in front of the bridge. When thinking about which photos to add to The New Orleans Collection, I couldn't ignore how I love incorporating greenery and the earth into manmade structures. This style wasn’t how I intentionally started out, but I have seen my own patterns and realized this is how I love to shoot. The blue sky in the background gives a warm and fuzzy feeling, and I can visualize myself and others at Crescent Park on a beautiful day. If you have’t been out there, do go. It’s a great space to relax and watch the ships pass by along the Mississippi River.
