45 Things in My 45 Years

As I publish this post, it’s my 45th birthday. I’m not sure why it’s such a momentous one for me, but I suppose it’s because it feels like it could be smack in the middle of my life, at least I can hope it is, if not even less. My life has been nothing short of spectacular, particularly in my 40s, in all kinds of ways. I want to share some of the things I’ve learned or just happen to want to share in these years I’ve been on this earth. Some of it is more personal, some generic, but all of it is mine. I’m so grateful to be here each day and there isn’t a morning I don’t express that to myself, to my pets, and in my journal. Here are 45 things in my 45 years. Just things I learned or want to share. I hope you like it.

Enjoying Myself All the Time

45 Things in My 45 Years

  1. I love coffee, journaling, and pet snuggles in the morning and I wake up super early (usually 5 am) so I’m never rushed doing these things.
  2. No one is ever going to give permission for you to be fully you - it’s up to you to discover that version of yourself.
  3. Confidence and self-worth are different, and I realize how much more important self-worth is because that’s what gives you the most confidence.
  4. I’m an entrepreneur to the core and embrace failing. It’s my favorite part of owning two businesses and figuring things out.
  5. Taking myself on solo trips is my biggest space of growth and realization, so I do it as much as I can.
  6. Having bangs is free botox.
  7. Deciding to become a joyful and peaceful person has helped me age in reverse and I look younger than I did 5 years ago.
  8. Dancing like no one is watching (in and outside of my house) makes the good brain chemicals happen and I feel really good about myself during and after.
  9. I love learning new things and new ways to grow personally, spiritually, emotionally, and in my businesses.
  10. When you grow into who you’re meant to be, the right people come and the wrong people go. It’s pretty cool.
  11. I’m scrappy and will always figure out how to pay my bills, enjoy life, and travel the world.
  12. Aging is the biggest gift I’ve ever been given. Aging well is a choice, so I treat myself with the best care and love everyday.
  13. Feeding people good food is how I show love. If I have cooked for you, I have loved you or do love you.
  14. My pets are one of my biggest sources of joy, enjoyment, and love. Loving them has made me a more whole person.
  15. Friends will come and go, and that is ok.
  16. Family is not always everything, and I am normalizing that. Sometimes distance is the best and only solution to a happier life.
  17. Writing is something I absolutely love doing, and I am grateful for everyone who reads my work.
  18. Creating community is one of my superpowers, and I love bringing people together as frequently as my ambivert self allows.
  19. Moving my body helps my mental health, and it makes me feel good about fitting into my clothes.
  20. My Instagram reels are all of personal development, pranks, and potty humor and I love that algorithms exist so I can see all the things I like.
  21. I snort when I laugh really hard. And I also sometimes pee a little if it’s uncontrollable laughter. And I think it's hysterical!
  22. Shopping at the farmers market and taking bee pollen almost everyday is how I never get sick. Do not challenge me here.
  23. I have developed strict personal policies that I will not compromise for anyone else’s comfort. I go first from now until always.
  24. I’d love to be in a partnership, yet not enough to compromise myself to be in one ever again. Then it’s not really a partnership.
  25. My friends are the coolest people and we love each other just the way each of us is.
  26. Karaoke is something I don’t do enough and want to do more of because I love to sing.
  27. I’ve normalized telling people I love that I love them regularly. And I mean it.
  28. Reading is something I will never get enough of, and when I read a good book, I share it with everyone I know (especially in the self-help genre).
  29. Therapy and having a coach have been monumental in leveling up in my life.
  30. I’m proud of myself a lot, and I love that for myself.
  31. Failing fast is the best way to do it. Pull that plug on whatever isn’t working and move on.
  32. No one is watching you as closely as you think, so you can be as weird and silly as you want. Also, it gives people the chance to join you in your weird and silly.
  33. Being nervous and excited are the same feeling. You can choose which one you want to be.
  34. Buying myself ridiculous amounts of flowers is something I will never not do. I want my house to smell like a florist.
  35. Generosity is something you can be when you have a lot of money and no money. It’s a spirit, and I like to surround myself with generous people because I am generous and generosity begets generosity.
  36. People who make me feel emotionally safe will always be welcome in my life. People who don’t are not.
  37. I like getting weird and deep early in conversations with people. Why wait?
  38. Writing a memoir and a fiction book are high on my list of things I want to do, and I will do it.
  39. Paris is my soul city, and I adore my life in New Orleans. So I get to have both.
  40. Divorcing twice wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but I don’t want to do it again.
  41. Making people feel good is something I very much enjoy doing. Everyone wants to be made to feel lovable.
  42. Dating apps are a nightmare. Tried them and done. That is all.
  43. I’m really good at manifesting things I want. It’s a pretty cool superpower.
  44. My relationship with God gets stronger every year and I enjoy that part of my life.
  45. I wouldn’t live anyone else’s life. Mine is the one that I chose, and my contract with myself is to always be grateful for it.

My Big Life

My good days are good, my bad days are good. It’s taken me 45 years to get here, and here I am. Reflecting on this point in my life is so spiritual and life-giving. It gives me perspective and the ability to see things as they are, and they are outstanding. This is somewhat of a journal entry for you to see, a sliver into my soul. Today, on my birthday, I hope that you can see yourself in some of these and smile. Life is so cool, so fascinating, so interesting. Enjoying it and appreciating it is the objective to a good life, and I am certainly living a good life.
