Best Boutique Hotels for Solo Travelers in Paris

I’ve been traveling to Paris as a solo traveler for years now and personally stayed in every hotel on this list. I have tried many, many types of accommodations, and have settled on the fact that central Paris boutique hotels are the right fit for me. I’m thinking that if you’re reading this, you feel the same. Paris is a rather small city, but it is important to stay closer to the main attractions, especially if you don’t travel to Paris that often. Spending all your time on the metro or in an Uber or taxi is not the optimal way to vacation.

Some people might think visiting Paris alone is lonely. I quite disagree. It’s one of the easiest cities to navigate alone, and while the Parisians like a good “bonjour,” they also speak better English than most of us speak French. When you’re staying at a boutique hotel instead of a major chain, you’re getting a type of luxury you wouldn’t get anywhere else. They are typically attentive, aware of your needs, and make things happen easily. To me, I much prefer this type of environment than one where I’m either totally on my own (like AirBnB) or uncomfortable with the amount of attention I’m getting (like a Four Seasons). In this guide to the best boutique hotels in Paris for solo travelers, you’ll get several good options. Let’s dive in.

How I Choose Boutique Hotels in Paris as a Solo Traveler

I have a method to my madness when I’m sorting through and choosing hotels. Often it takes me weeks of research to settle on a hotel. There are certain criteria I am looking at and won’t compromise on. I scour reviews, check prices, and make sure the rooms aren’t a sardine box. Naturally, they are smaller than many US hotel rooms, but I want to be able to lay my suitcase down without stepping into it when I get out of my bed. Central location is a big item for me. I want to be close to the metro (though that’s not difficult in Paris), restaurants, and attractions I want to see while there. This list is primarily right bank, as I am a biased right bank lover. You can see that in the guide I wrote on my beloved rive droite.

Some other interests of mine are elevators, balconies, complimentary coffee, and round the clock reception. Safety is a big factor for me when I’m traveling alone, and I often engage with the front desk to make sure they know me and remember me as I come and go throughout the day. Choosing a hotel is a massive undertaking for me, and I am very proud to share some of my favorites that I have picked throughout my travels to Paris. Often on a visit, I stay at more than one hotel so I can offer more options. That’s what this list is, so without further ado, here are my favorite boutique hotels in Paris.

My Favorite Boutique Hotels in Paris for Solo Travelers

Remember, I am writing this as a female solo traveler, so that is the bias I have in these recommendations. Price is always a factor for me, though occasionally I splurge and get nicer rooms with balconies and spa access (that I admittedly never use). I enjoy seeing the differences in all of the locations I’ve stayed, and especially enjoy sharing them. You're going to find something on this list you have to book.

Hotel Filigrane Balcony

Hotel Filigrane

Located in the 2nd arrondissement, Hotel Filigrane was the most delightful stay in Paris. I opted for a balcony room, and enjoyed standing out there and watching the people go by or letting the fresh - ok, it’s Paris so maybe not super fresh - air into the room. Mostly I love hearing the sirens and click clack of people’s suitcases. Each morning I would ring down and ask for them to bring me coffee, which they did, while I snuggled back in bed to journal and wake up slowly. The staff was extraordinarily kind and interested in me as a traveler. I felt like I was at home during my much too short visit. The hotel is close to some of the best covered passages, like Passage Jouffroy, as well as the metro station. If you’re like me, though, you’ll just want to walk everywhere, and this hotel is perfect for that. I highly recommend this hotel if you want to treat yourself for your solo jaunt in Paris.

Hôtel R de Paris

I booked this hotel somewhat last minute because I decided to go to Paris a few days early. Why not try another hotel while I’m there? Hôtel R de Paris is located in the 9th arrondissement and very near Saint-Lazare and Opéra. For this stay, I got a regular room and did not splurge for one of the balcony rooms. The room was still a delightful experience, as was the complimentary afternoon tea and little bites. I took my book downstairs and read while I ate tiny sandwiches and drank my latte. And yes, they have a 24/7 coffee machine downstairs. There is a spa with hammam and sauna that you are welcome to book. I did not take advantage of this but might next time I go and stay there. This is a really special hotel, and one that you would be very happy with in your travels to Paris, especially as a solo traveler.

Hôtel Adèle & Jules

On the most charming, dead end street lies Hôtel Adèle & Jules. It was renovated from two historic townhouses that they turned into the hotel, and it couldn’t be more cozy and charming. I found this hotel through the Everyday Parisian, so I knew it would be a great choice. One of my favorite things about the hotel was tea time, where I brought my goodies from Aux Marveilleux de Fred and ate them while having my tea. The rooms are generous, and the location is near everything. I found one of my favorite wine spots located around the corner, where the owner Henri hosts wine and cheese tastings by reservation. This is a location you can walk everywhere, or catch the metro. If you’re traveling solo, you’ll feel very safe in this location.

Welcome Note at Les Matins de Paris

Welcome Note at Les Matins de Paris

Les Matins de Paris

In South Pigalle, you will find what turned out to be the most serendipitous stay I’ve had in Paris. An abrupt change in travel caused me to have to find a hotel in Paris last minute (as in the day before) and after scouring Google Maps, I found this one and it looked perfect. And perfect it was. The room I got was, as the front desk said, the best in the hotel. It had a balcony with two chairs that faced Sacré-Cœur, and a bathroom window that faced the Eiffel Tower. And yes, you can use the toilet and watch that sucker sparkle (find out here: When Does the Eiffel Tower Sparkle). It was quite glorious. The hotel is steps away from a street with fantastic foods, markets, and shopping. I found a little store not far where I met a local artisan and we still keep in touch. This hotel is absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to go back and stay there in my favorite room. One other notable thing they did was have a personal note to me and shortbread cookies. Yes, you won me over with this, Les Matins de Paris.

Hôtel Helussi

Hôtel Helussi is a sweet, unassuming boutique hotel perfect for the solo traveler to Paris. It’s on a very quiet street, and when I arrived I was excited to check it out. The room that I got was fantastic and rather large, with a beautiful balcony that I couldn’t get enough of. It’s a little more off the beaten path than some of the others I’ve stayed, but I felt totally safe and secure. They have reception 24x7, and they are aware of your comings and goings. One of the nicest things was being able to walk from Gare du Nord train station, where I had taken the RER-B into the city from the airport. If you have a lot of luggage, this might be a little challenging because there were some uphill moments. Otherwise, it’s an easy walk. I really enjoyed my stay here, and I have a discount code for you to use if you book as well directly with them.

Hotel Gramont

Hotel Gramont is a hotel I regret not booking more nights. Because you don’t know what you don’t know, I booked another hotel for a bit longer and this one only two nights - huge mistake. Hotel Gramont was one of the nicest experiences I’ve had in Paris, and I feel like I had a home away from home. My room was a balcony room, and the size was very generous. The bathroom was large and the toilet was in its own closet, which I love. The hotel is positioned in a fantastic area near Opéra Garnier, and you can walk to so much. There is a coffee machine and a nice cafe style area that I worked while I was waiting for my room to be ready. Everyone on staff was exceptionally kind, and I got a couple of hand written notes that I still have. What an absolute treat to stay there, and I encourage you to as well if you’re looking for a perfect stay in Paris as a solo traveler.

Hotel Fior d’Aliza

Hotel Fior d’Aliza is a fantastic and reasonably priced hotel located in the 9th arrondissement. Reception said that all the rooms are basically the same, as I had inquired about a balcony room (my indulgence). The location of this hotel couldn’t be better for shopping, boulangeries, and restaurants. When I have stayed in other hotels I often pass this one because it’s that centrally located. Though I stayed on the first floor, I would likely ask for a higher floor next time because I like to be away from the noise of the street, and the street can get quite busy. This is a great hotel option if you are traveling solo and you want to feel safe and secure.

Best Areas in Paris for Solo Travelers to Stay

You’re going to find my massively biased list to be mostly in the 9th arrondissement. The reason is because I like to be slightly outside of the main areas, while still having very good access to everything. If you’re like me and want to stay on the right bank, the other arrondissements I would recommend looking into are the 2nd, like Hotel Filigrane, the 1st, and the 3rd & 4th arrondissements. These are going to be the most appealing, and you will be near so much in Paris. I have stayed in all but the 1st, but I know that is going to change as I continue to go back. There are a few hotels I have on my radar already.

Who’s Ready for a Solo Boutique Hotel Stay in Paris?

I am! There is nothing more charming to me than choosing a good boutique hotel in the center of Paris. Each one has been wildly different, and I am so glad I have made it my mission to experience as many as I can so I can help you make the best plans to Paris. Trust me, they don’t all make the list, but many do. Paris boutique hotels typically know how to treat you right and make you feel welcome. So, for your solo trip to Paris, I say bon voyage, and au revoir!
