When many of us come to Paris, we want to go home with a beautiful handbag we purchased here. At least, that's how my friends and I feel. Paris is famous for its luxury brands, but since moving here, I've discovered that you don't need to spend thousands of euros to find a beautiful, quality handbag. A few hundred, yes. A few thousand? Not necessarily.
I've been exploring boutiques all over Paris, discovering smaller French handbag brands that deserve just as much attention as the big names. Some I've sought out, while others I've stumbled upon while wandering through my neighborhood or the city's beautiful covered passages. I've seen, touched, and even purchased bags from the brands on this list, and I'm sharing where to find them, where they're made, and what you can expect to spend.

Paul Marius Boutique in Montmartre
Starting out strong, Ateliers Fourès is a brand that I actually own. I discovered it while at one of my favorite shops in the covered passage called Passage Choiseul. The store is called Boisnard-Stern, and they sell beautiful stationery, journals, and, as it turns out, handbags. As I inquired about the leather bags more and more, I knew I had to have one, as they are made in France to this day, despite many companies moving to other countries.
The company was started in 1969 by a husband and wife, whose last name is Fourès, and they produce the bags in southern France in a city called Graulhet. They use the most supple leather, and you can get an array of leather products from this shop made by Ateliers Fourès. I highly recommend a look at this brand if you want a bag that is actually made in France.
Expect to spend between €85-€479 on a bag, depending on size and complexity of it.
Louvreuse is a beautiful, simple French leather products brand that is actually made in France, and it happens to be located in another covered passage called Galerie Vivienne. It’s its own boutique, and the storefront is not very obvious, so make sure to map it and find it within the bustling passage. You can find anything from handbags to wallets in this shop, and it’s simply laid-out so you won’t get overwhelmed.
The company started in 2016 by Victoire de Villiers, and the designs are inspired by art history, which explains the geometric shapes and unusual colors. Don’t worry, they have neutral colors as well, but if you’re up for some fun, this is a good place to shop. Another perk? You can personalize the items with gold leaf, making it exclusively your own. This is a special brand.
Expect to spend between €250-€450 on any bag in their collection.
When I walked into Pourchet, I was baffled that there wasn’t a line wrapped around Place des Vosges, the location I chose to visit. It’s a stunning store, and the many displays of handbags are perfect. I was tempted to buy one of each item. The colors, the selection, and the styles were all what I would want in a handbag. And the prices? Yes, please.
Pourchet was founded in 1903, and it’s been operating since. According to the shop clerk, the majority of the bags (around 60%) are made in France, and they are labeled “Made in France” in the store. Bags are primarily made from cowhide from European tanneries. You can find them in a couple of locations, Place des Vosges being one, and Avenue de l’Opera as the second.
Expect to spend between €150-€350, give or take.
When I walked into Fleuron for the first time a couple of years ago, I was in love. I had been shopping at their next door neighbor, Sézane, and simply stumbled into this gorgeous, small boutique with the most beautiful handbags in all colors. The Hortensia bag sent me into a spiral, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it, specifically the Rubis color. Fleuron is designed in Paris and made in Italy.
If you want a very classy, high quality bag that you can buy in Paris, I would definitely recommend Fleuron to you. You can choose from a variety of options, but not too many that it overwhelms you. This is one of the more expensive brands on my list, but also reasonable for a quality handbag.
Expect to spend between €300-€600 on a bag here.

Personalized Handbags from Le Nom
Le Nom is not only a fun and unique handbag brand, it’s in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris: Le Marais. It’s smack in the middle of the Jewish quarter, so you can shop for your bag and pick up a falafel after. When I walked in, I felt happy and whimsical, and I could hear everyone else in the store feeling the same. There was even a man helping his wife choose bags and colors to personalize the bag.
That leads me to the origin story. Le Nom was created in 2019, when personalized straw baskets were created for bridesmaids for a wedding in Saint-Tropez. One Instagram photo, and the rest is history. The bags come from Italy, and in the shop you can get any number of personalizations. Me? I’d probably get a tiny cat in the corner of a handbag or maybe even a snake, because that’s what I love. This store will lighten your mood and you'll come away with a custom handbag from Paris.
Expect to spend between €100-€250 for one of the adorable bags in this store.
Another brand I stumbled upon while walking in my neighborhood in Montmartre, Paul Marius scooted to the short list because of the uniqueness of the bags’ looks and the prices. The bags are so neatly laid-out in the store, and they have a variety of options from which to choose. There were one or two in particular I still can’t get out of my mind, and I have a feeling I’ll be back in there to buy one.
This company was started in 2010, so it’s not very old, by Florent Poirier who was just 23 years old. The company identifies with its Normandy roots, and has boutiques sprinkled all over Paris, which makes it a very convenient place to purchase a handbag. Most of the bags are made in India, Cambodia, Italy, and France, and the company uses quality leather to make their products.
Expect to spend between €55-€250 for most of their bags, but really around €150. The prices cannot be beat.
Proud to be an Italian brand and made in Italy (and I don’t blame them at all), Il Bisonte is another brand I discovered walking through my beloved covered passages, this one Galerie Vero-Dodat. I fell in love with these bags immediately, and absolutely love that the buffalo is the branding on these bags. You can get any type of bag here, from a structured purse to a folding travel bag.
You can find two boutiques in Paris, one on the Right Bank and one on the Left Bank. The brand itself was founded in Florence, Italy, in 1970, and its headquarters remain there. In 1984, they opened their first Paris boutique in Galerie Vero-Dodat. Two years later, they opened the one on the Left Bank. This is a solidly made European brand, and one to consider when shopping for handbags in Paris.
Expect to spend between €240-€750 for one of their beautiful bags.
Jack Gomme is a brand that I found a couple of years ago at a little store called aBis in Galerie Vivienne. Because I wasn’t paying attention then, I couldn’t remember which passage I had seen this store. Fast forward to a more leisurely shopping day while living here, and I found it again. They still had the Jack Gomme bags I loved so much, and I got to hold them, feel them, and try them. These are far different from any of the other bags on this list, and that’s one reason I chose them.
Started in 1985, the founders wanted simple, practical, lightweight, and accessible bags. They succeeded, and the other highlight is that about 90% of the production is in France, so this is a legitimate French brand and company. The materials come from Japan, Italy, and France, but the manufacturing is in France. You have to see these bags in person to really appreciate how awesome they are.
Expect to spend between €100-€300.
I met Lyetta Phalo on a random day during one of my many visits to Paris before I moved. When I meandered into a boutique down the street from my hotel, she was there, with her beautiful pieces among several other makers’ items in a collective space. She and I stayed in touch, and I got to know her beautiful brand better during the months.
With her Colombian heritage and Paris residency, she creates handbags that can be customized with materials from Panama and Colombia, the leather coming from Portugal mainly. Not only does she make handbags, she makes other leather products and clothes. Her style is uniquely Lyetta, and your best bet is to follow her on Instagram so you can see where her latest collection is. She is the type of designer who you want to buy from. She is enthusiastic, caring, and very particular about her brand. I can’t get enough of her.
Expect to spend €50-€300, depending on the type of bag.
While perusing and getting to know my neighborhood, I saw Blue Lemon's shop and it immediately drew me into it. The colorful handbags displayed were enough to coax me - after all, I am in love with small French handbag brands that are also affordable. I learned about what they offered, and knew right away that I would be adding this brand as one of my favorites. Not only are their handbags sassy, colorful, and high quality, they make so much more, from leather gloves to wallets to jewelry. I continue to fall in love with my neighborhood because of stores like this.
Blue Lemon is a French handbag brand whose leather comes from Italy, with its bags manufactured in Tuscany. The brand embraces colorful, playful designs, which I particularly appreciate as someone who loves wearing all black with a statement handbag. You're going to love what you see when you go into one of the three locations in Paris.
Expect to spend €50-€200, depending on the type of bag.

There are so many beautiful handbags that you can buy in Paris, and these are the few that I decided to put on my short list for you. You’ve likely not heard of most of them, but I've personally visited, handled, or purchased bags from every brand on this list, and these are the ones that stood out enough for me to share with you. When you come to Paris and see them for yourself, it won’t surprise me if you walk away with more than one. Between the quality and the prices, you won’t find much better in the total package of one of these handbags. Happy shopping!
